Betty Irvin

Obituary: Betty Frances Hucks Irvin, age 93, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Caremoor Retirement Center, Kannapolis, NC. She was born September 4, 1921 in Mecklenburg County, NC, the daughter of the late Clarence Leonard Hucks and Alma Irene Davis Hucks. Betty was a homemaker and community seamstress practically all of her life. In earlier years she was very active at her church, Gilwood Presbyterian Church, where she received a honorary life membership in the Presbyterian Women in 1985. Also, she served as a Sunday school teacher, President & Secretary of the Women of the Church, and a choir member. She also took great pride in being a part of the Cabarrus County Home Extension Club for over fifty years. Her family fondly remembers her love of making pecan and coconut pies, creating various crafts for church bazaars, and canning foods over the years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wesley Irvin; a granddaughter, Jennifer Thigpen Deal; a brother, Clarence Leonard Hucks, Jr.; two sisters, Louise Hucks Whitlow and Rosa Hucks Davis. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Gilwood Presbyterian Church, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Alan Buckner. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include her children, Carol I. Thigpen (Emory) of Beulaville, NC; Michael Eugene Irvin (Kathy) of Concord, NC; and Pamela I. Turpin (Tom) of Mooresville, NC; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Lane Turpin and Philip Wesley Irvin; two step-grandchildren, Kabin Darrell Brown and Ryan Derry Brown; three sisters, Nancy Hucks Cook and Gwen Hucks Monteith, both of Huntersville, NC; and Mary Bruce Hucks Austin of Charlotte, NC.
