Obituary: Betty Jean Smith Bristol, age 77, of Kannapolis went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from CMC - NorthEast, after a 10 year battle with cancer. Her funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 29 at Piedmont Baptist Church in Kannapolis, with Rev. Mike Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Saturday, January 28. Betty was born Feb. 18, 1939 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late Boyd H. and Pauline Hinson Carpenter. She was a life-long area resident and active member of Piedmont Baptist Church. Betty loved cooking, fishing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a sister and 3 brothers. Betty is survived by her loving husband, David Bristol, of the home, her sons; Chuck Smith (Kimanh) of Kannapolis, Tim Smith (Sherry) of Lewisville, Danny Smith (Tammy) of Kannapolis, James Smith (Traci) of China Grove and Aron Bristol of China Grove, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and her sister, Carolyn Connelly. Betty is also survived by her "special children", she nurtured through the years; Susan Puckett, Linda Smith Durham, Debbie Connelly Kennerly and Kim Carpenter.
