Betty Jo Brock Phillips

Obituary: Concord, NC- Betty Jo Brock Phillips, age 67, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 11, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born January 22, 1945 in Chesterfield County, S.C., the daughter of the late William K. Brock and Sara Catherine Gulledge Brock. Betty was employed with the former China Grove Cotton Mill, China Grove, NC for a number of years until her retirement due to disability. She was an active member of Fisher Street Baptist Church, Concord, NC. She is fondly remembered as a person who thought about everybody and was always there to help others. She was also a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her older sister, Minnie Lee Tyner. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Joey Spry. A graveside service will follow later that afternoon at 3:00 P.M. at St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, S.C. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, James (Jimmy) O. Phillips; one daughter, Cynthia Smith & husband, Kenneth of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Christen McCurrach, Joshua Lee Smith, and Jared Seth Smith; a foster child, Orlando Alex Edwards of Concord, NC; four great-grandsons, Jordan, Jayden, Caleb, and Beau; one sister, Delores Boan of Kannapolis, NC and Riley Brock of Kannapolis, NC.
