Obituary: Betty Black Johnson, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh. Mrs. Johnson was born April 30, 1934 in Cabarrus County. She retired after 42 years in nursing. She worked in many different care settings including, Cabarrus Memorial Hospital Emergency Room; The Health Departments of Rowan and Cabarrus counties; and as an Occupational Health nurse for Linn-Corriher and Burlington Industries in Mooresville where she retired after 16 years. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis. Survivors include a son, David Johnson and his wife Lori of Raleigh; a brother, Jimmy Carter of Kannapolis; and a sister, Esther Stillwell of Kannapolis; and many loving nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her loving parents, Walter and Elsie Carter. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis with Rev. Brant Piper officiating. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis.
