Obituary: Betty Mae Rumple Whitley, 85, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 31 at Bethpage United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Portis and Rev. Duane Melton officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Her family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, prior to the funeral. Betty was born August 2, 1931 in Cabarrus Co., the daughter of the late Ernest A. and Eula Mae Allman Rumple. She was a life-long area resident and life-long member of Bethpage United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Bessie Lou Circle, the Lou Smith Sunday School class and as a teacher for Nursery-1. Betty loved to sew for and care for her family as well as others in need. She enjoyed growing and caring for her flower garden and spending time at her pond and talking with friends on the telephone. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a wonderful supportive neighbor in her community and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Whitley in 2010. She is survived by her 2 daughters; Jill Linton (Mike) of Kannapolis, Donna Deal (Mike) of China Grove, her grandchildren; Kevin Linton (Jessica), Matt Linton, and Leah Deal (boyfriend, Todd Wilson) and great-grandson, Collin Linton, all of Kannapolis as well as many other loving relatives.
