Obituary: Beulah Boyd Messer, age 94, of Gastonia, formerly of Kannapolis, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Alexandria Place Nursing Facility after a period of declining health. Beulah was born September 16, 1918 in Boyd Co. Nebraska, a daughter of the late John and Dolly Heard Boyd. She was a long-time area resident of Kannapolis and worked for Cannon Mills Co.in the spinning room until she retired and she was employed by Cabarrus Co. school system until she retired again. Beulah was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church. In addition to her parents, Beulah was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Arthur Henry Messer and her sons, Arthur Jack Messer and Bobby Eugene Messer and her grandsons, Bobby Messer, Jr. and Jeffery Messer and 8 of her brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Frazier of Concord and Linda Hendrick (Jack) of Gastonia and her son, William T. Messer of Kannapolis, her sister, Ruth Anderson of Rockwell and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel from 1:30 to 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 14. Her funeral will follow at 2:00 PM in the Annex Chapel with Rev. Roger Bostic officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
