Obituary: Billie Laura Gibbons Almond, 65, of Kannapolis died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast. She was born December 1, 1945 in Salisbury, NC, the daughter of the late William Edward Gibbons and the late Laura Eva Lewis Gibbons. She graduated A.L. Brown High School in 1964 and Catawba College in 1968 with a BA degree in Education, Language Arts and Mathematics. She was employed from 1968-2000 with Kannapolis City Schools and from 2000-2004 with Rowan -Salisbury Schools. She had also worked part-time at Jewelry and Loan Company. Billie did volunteer work with CMC-NorthEast for many years where she had just received her 1500 hours service award. She was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church where she served as an offering counter, nursery worker, Board of Trustee member, Administrative Council at large member, Board of Directors member for Footprints Christian Academy at the church and prayer chain member. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 at Bethpage United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Duane Melton. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends one hour prior at church. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Curtis Almond, her daughter Laura LeeAnn Almond and her aunt Mildred Brumley all of Knnapolis.
