Obituary: Billie Doris Murphy Davis, of Landis, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016. She was born in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Ousie Lee Murphy and Sarah Pennell Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William Howard Davis. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Hoyt Murphy, Alfred Murphy and Harland Murphy and two sisters, Allie Alley and Verneice Brawley. Billie Doris was a graduate of Landis High School and Wingate College, where she starred in basketball. She retired as a lead medical secretary at Presbyterian Hospital. She was a member of Genesis Baptist Church and was a charter member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Genesis Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Gene Edwards and Rev. Roger L. Steadman. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Davis Phillips (Mike) and Debra Susan Davis, two brothers, Duard Murphy and Larry Murphy (Edie), five sisters, Dico Wilhelm, Nat McCorkle, Willaree McDuffie, Gayle Stack (Tony) and Vivian Murphy.
