Billie Frances Childers Murphy

Obituary: Billie Frances Childers Murphy, 77, of Concord Passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Big Elm Rehab Center. She was born October 11, 1937, a daughter of the late William "Bill" and Ora James Childers. Billie was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Odell High School. She attended Western Carolina for 1 year and attended Rowan Cabarrus Community College. Billie worked for Cannon Mills, the Hosiery Mill and Cabarrus Mem. Hospital and the Trucker's Center and also worked as activities director for the Coltrane Senior Life Center. She loved to sing in church choirs, quartets, trios and with her husband, Duard, whom she married July 2, 1960. They would sing together at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. Billie was a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church in Concord. In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her daughters; Lori Murphy and Amy Murphy Welch. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Duard F. Murphy of the family home, her son, Michael Patrick Murphy (Beverly) of Charlotte, sister, Dorothy Childers Schmitz of SC, nephews, Marty and Rob Schmitz, niece, Anne Tiberio and 3 grandchildren; Drew Michael Welch, Benjamin Patrick Welch and Carly Erin Lee Welch. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 7 at Gilwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Alan Buckner officiating, with her body lying in-state at the church ½ hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
