Obituary: Billy Allen Barnhardt, age 66, died unexpectedly on a trip to Daytona Beach, Florida. He was born December 31, 1949 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of Geneva Young Peeler of Kannapolis, NC and the late Thomas Elmer Barnhardt. Billy was employed as an assemblyman at Freightliner in Cleveland, NC for twenty years until retirement. Prior to that time, he had also worked at Gamewell Mechanical in Salisbury, NC and G & S Metal in Kannapolis, NC. Billy had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1970 to 1972. He was very active throughout the years with the Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge # 695, the Cabarrus Shrine Club, and the Oasis Shrine Temple. He also participated in further masonic functions including the newly created Knights of Solomon Traveling Masonic Lodge. His family happily remembers Billy's love for his family especially time spent with his three great nephews. The family will cherish their memories of their steadfast friend and brother. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a nephew, Bradley Thomas Barnhardt. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Gene Edwards. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard followed by Masonic rites conducted by Allen-Graham Lodge #695.The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include in addition to his mother are two brothers, Thomas Eugene Barnhardt, his twin, & wife, Linda of Kannapolis, NC and Terry Lynn Barnhardt & wife, Stacey of Rockwell, NC; a niece, Brittney C. Barnhardt of China Grove, NC; a nephew, Tommy G. Barnhardt & wife, Lindsey of Rockwell, NC and their children, Landon, Dalton, and Bryson; and his special friend, Janice Hatley & her family also of Kannapolis, NC. Memorials may be made to the Bradley T. Barnhardt Scholarship Fund, 1520 Rogers Road, China Grove, NC 28023. On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
