Billy Ray Clayton, 85, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
Billy was born on May 28, 1939, in Cabarrus County. He was a cherished son of the late Clifford Clayton and Mary Lucy Childers Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Clayton; brothers, Charles Childers and Tommy Clayton; and sister, Barbara Allen; and his loving dogs, Bibop and Princess.
Billy was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War. As an Aviation Ordnanceman (E4), he contributed significantly to the success of naval aviation operations, earning the respect and admiration of those who served with him.
During his military service, Billy was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal, reflecting his dedication, discipline, and commitment to his country. His service was a testament to his strong character and sense of duty.
After his time in the Navy, Billy spent his career working at Wilson Fence Company until he retired.
He found peace in nature, whether golfing with friends, tending to his garden, or enjoying trips to the mountains and the beach. Billy’s garden, full of vibrant vegetables and flowers, was a testament to his nurturing spirit.
He was loved and cared for by his niece, Susan Childers Haigler and stepdaughter Terri Broome Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory include many significant others and numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the VA Home Care Team, Via Health Partners Hospice Care, and the staff at Saint Andrews Living Center in Concord. They loved and made him apart of their family.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
