Bob Sloop Mclaughlin

Obituary: Bob Sloop McLaughlin, 76, was born in Rowan County, August 15, 1934 to Dtizo W. McLaughlin and Gertrude Sloop McLaughlin. He passed away peacefully on June 18th after a three year disability from a stroke. He graduated from Landis High school and Rowan Cabarrus Community College.An army veteran, he served in the United States Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky and in Germany from 1955-1957.Bob loved his Savior, Jesus Christ and was a life long member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he served as Youth Leader, Boy Scout Master, Sunday school teacher, Council member, Church Treasurer, Property Committee Chairman and Bus Fund Treasurer.Never resting, he was a volunteer fire fighter for many years, serving as Chief of Atwell Fire Department, and also as president and active member of Corriher Grange. He also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels when he could. Bob worked for Douglas Aircraft Company and retired from Sears after 30 years as a Heating and Air Condition Technician. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Foil W. McLaughlin and Martin McLaughlin.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, June 20, 2011 at Concordia Lutheran Church, China Grove officiated by Rev. Ken Reed. The family will receive friends after the service at church. Burial will be private.Bob is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Bost McLaughlin, married August 15, 1953 , sisters, Clara M. Turrentine of China Grove and Virginia M. Sutton of China Grove, daughters Bobbie M. Dellinger and Jim Dellinger of Davidson and Angela M. Harriott and John Harriott of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Garrett Dellinger and fiancé Kristal Smith, Jason Dellinger, Rebecca Dellinger, Courtney Harriott, Bryan Harriott and Kevin Harriott.Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church Bus Fund, 185 Concordia Church Rd., China Grove, NC 28023.Whitley's Funeral Home handling arrangements.
