Obituary: Bobby J. Clayton, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a short illness. He was born September 18, 1934 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Crawford Clayton and Mary Fisher Clayton. Bobby was employed as a truck driver beginning at Thurston Motor Lines, Johnson Motor Lines, Bost Trucking, and later Food Lion for many years until his retirement. Bobby was an active, long-time member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had sung in the choir in earlier years, active with the Building Grounds Committee, and active in various phases of other church activities. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on the U.S.S. Independence during the 1950's. His family fondly remembers his love of all types of sports especially baseball being a dedicated Atlanta Braves fan. He also loved hun ting in his earlier years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, David Wayne Clayton; a sister, Ethel Clayton Carraway. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 8, 2015 at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Phil Goble, Jr. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the service. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Nancy Freeze Clayton; one daughter, Karla C. Travis & husband, Teddy of Landis, NC; one son, Russell Clayton of Concord, NC; a sister, Gaynelle Hayer of Kannapolis, NC; granddaughter, Ashland Travis Jones & husband, Timothy of Landis, NC; grandson, Hunter Travis of Landis, NC; and two great-grandchildren, MaKenna and Madilynn Jones. Memorials may be made to Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, c/o Food Pantry, 2204 Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 280801 or Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
