Obituary: "Bobby" Franklin Gulledge, 73, was born on Feb. 7, 1939 and passed away on August 4, 2012 at his home in Vancleave, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Harley and Rosella Boatwright Gulledge; his brothers, James and Johnny Gulledge; sister, Elizabeth (Lib) "Sissy" St. John and a grandson, Chad Edward Vining. He is survived by his children; Kathie Champion of China Grove, NC, LaVail Gulledge of Vancleave, MS, Lisa Vining of Gautier, MS and Lu Ann Baxter (Billy) of China Grove, NC, his five grandchildren; Katie Vining, Mollie Champion, Kevin (Kendall) Gulledge, Cody and Allyson Baxter, one great-grandson, Kaleb Gulledge, faithful companion, Charlotte Steward of Gautier, MS and adopted grandchildren; Mckenzie Harrington, Parker and Carsyn Stelmack. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1958 and in the Merchant Marines 1969-1970. In the 60's and 70's he was the owner of Bob's Grill in Kannapolis, NC; co-owner of B&G's Garage in Landis, NC, and co-owner of Blue's Union 76 in Kannapolis. He retired from Ingalls in 2001 as a pipefitter. He was a long time and avid fan of NASCAR (Earnhardt), Atlanta Braves and Washington Redskins. Loved fishing with his close friends Ricardo (Ric) Chavarria, Ralph Cruthrids and Kevin Sprague; making scupanine wine and jelly, woodworking and working in his garden. A visitation was held Monday August 6, at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa, MS and Visitation will be held locally at Whitley's Funeral Home from 10:00AM-12:00PM on Saturday August 11, and his funeral will follow at noon in Whitley's Chapel with Rev. Robert Harrington officiating. He will be laid to rest with Military Burial Rites at Sunset Cemetery behind his childhood friend, Jerry Hudson The family would like to thank Dr. Clarkson and his nurse Kathy, the staff of the Cancer Center, all the nurses and staff of SRHS and Hospice of Light (especially Donna) for the care and compassion shown to our daddy and grandpa (Paw) Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com and in Lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the church or charity of your choice or Hospice of Light.
