Bobby Lenn Kanipe, 86, of Kannapolis, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning, July 13th, from his home, following a period of declining health.
Born April 11, 1934 in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Leonard Lee Kanipe and Edna Mae Montooth Kanipe. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Lenn Kanipe and his son-in-law, Ernie Ellsion.
Bobby was a graduate of Cannon High School and had honorably served his country with the US Army, during the Korean War. He had worked for the Independent Tribune and Cannon Mills. Mr. Kanipe was instrumental in building Mt. Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a loyal member of for more than 48 years. Bobby was also a member of Resurrection Baptist Church.
Family members include his devoted wife of 65 ½ years, Sue Kanipe; daughter, Paula Ellison; his brother, Leon Kanipe; grandchildren, Chelsea and Chase Ellison; special, much loved family, Tim and Sherry Jones, Taylor Jones, Tommy and Jenna Dick; and his church and fire department family.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm Wednesday, July 15th at Resurrection Baptist Church, 5615 Old Salisbury-Concord Road in Kannapolis. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Kanipe will begin at 1:00 pm in the church, conducted by Pastor Tim Jones. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
