Bradford Lee Burgess, 87, of the Enochville community died Friday, November 8, 2019 while at Universal Health Care Concord, after a period of declining health.
His funeral will be held at St. Enoch Lutheran Church at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 10, with Pastor Dale Cline officiating. His family will receive friends in the sanctuary the hour prior starting at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Bradford was born February 3, 1932 in Anson Co. NC, a son of the late John and Pauline Thomas Burgess. He was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church. He attended Landis schools. He worked as a loom fixer for Highland Mills in Charlotte and then later worked for Celanese in Salisbury as an instructor until retiring. Bradford loved wood-working, fishing and his dog, Lilly. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Bradford was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Burgess, three brothers; Mack, Herman and Joe and four sisters; Frances, Lucy, Helen and Myrtle. Bradford is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Ruth “Dollie” Swink Burgess of the home, his sons; Lynn Burgess (Frances) of Concord and Mark Burgess (Rhonda) of Kannapolis, his daughter, Ruthie B. Woodward (Bennie) of China Grove, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters; Carolyn Watson and Katherine Monday, both of Concord, as well as many loving nieces nephews.
