Obituary: Brenda Kay Hamby Edwards, 70, of Kannapolis, shed her worldly bonds on Thursday, January 29, 2015, spread her new wings, opened her eyes and saw paradise just as Jesus promised for faithful believers. Her mom and dad were sure to be there with open arms bidding her to be not afraid. Brenda was born June 29, 1944 in Kannapolis to the late Bryan and Dollie Hamby. She was educated in Kannapolis City Schools and RCCC. Brenda worked at Plant 1 in the wash cloth department as an inspector and supervisor for 38 years. After the plant closing, she attended RCCC and studied Early Childhood Development. She worked for Kannapolis City School before retiring because of poor health. When she was 16 she met Bruce L. Edwards and after a whirlwind courtship they sneaked across the SC border for a marriage that would last almost 54 years until she was called by the Lord. In addition to her husband she is survived by her wonderful daughter, Amy Sherrill and husband, Bill, her grandchildren, Molly-Beth and Robin (BB) Sherrill, all of Kannapolis. She is also survived by her loving sister, Anna Ruth Binkley (Ken) of Winston Salem and her brother, James Hamby (Ann). If you have ever wronged her or had any issue with her, rest assured, they have long since been forgiven and forgotten. No one has ever given so much of herself and asked for so little in return. The funeral will be held 1:00 PM Monday, February 2 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Parker officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM Monday prior to the funeral.
