Brenda Gail Wood

Brenda Gail Chewning Wood, 83, of Kannapolis went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 23, 2024 at her residence following a period of declining health.

Brenda was born August 1, 1941 in Cabarrus County, a daughter of the late John Henry Chewning and Hallie Mae Davis Chewning. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Curtis Vernon Wood, Sr. on September 9, 2001. A son, Curt Wood, Jr. also preceded her in death along with a sister Sharon Wingler.

She was a member of Living Waters Church of God. She was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School. In early life she was a beautician and later was the owner and operator of Mam Maw Brenda’s Child Care Center. She enjoyed traveling all her life.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 29th, 2024 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor’s Bill and Sylvania Russell.officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Family members left to cherish her memory include two daughters; Kelly Ledbetter (the late Billy Gene Ledbetter) of Kannapolis and Tracy Tyson and husband David Wayne Tyson, Sr. of Kannapolis. 

She is survived by five grandchildren: Meredith Miller and huband Sammy, Ashley and fiance' Kyle,, David, Jr.wife Ashley,,Brenden Cale Tyson, and Keethen Wood along with eight great grandchildren; Madison Miller and fiance' Chandler Norton,, Deegan, Zoie, Bella, Brayden, Corben, Harper and Annelise. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
