Obituary: Bruce G. Sloop, 69, formerly of Concord, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at Carolinas Health Care-Main. He was born September 4, 1948 in Stanly Co. to the late James Albert Sloop and Mary Almond Sloop. Mr. Sloop served his country during the Vietnam War serving in the Marines, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Bruce finished his race by serving the Lord faithfully as Food Pantry volunteer and security officer of Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis. He retired from Fedex Ground as a mechanic. He was a charter member of Charity Baptist Church, where he had sung in the choir, cleaned and maintained the facilities, and served in numerous phases of church activities. He is fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and Great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Carol Hines Sloop, sister, Becky Faulkner, and son Bruce Allen Sloop. Those left to cherish his memory, three daughters, Tammy Winecoff and husband David, of Kannapolis, Deanie Watts and partner Kevin Trull of Mt. Holly, Amy Mason and husband William of Concord, one son Rorry Sloop and wife Donya of Gastonia; Eight grandchildren, Kristen Roseman (Josh), Billy Winecoff, Justin Mason, Michael Mason, Rylan Sloop, Karson Sloop, Maddie Sloop, and Kevin Trull; one Great grandchild Hunter Roseman, and brother in law Johnnie Faulkner. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday (Nov. 10) at Charity Baptist Church, with Rev. Marty Payton officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial may be made to Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
