C. L. Joushia Adcock

Obituary: C.L. Joushia Adcock, 86, of Kannapolis passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Tucker Hospice House. He was born November 20, 1927 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Mack Alexander Adcock and Lona Maples Adcock. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Wilma Garver Adcock on July 3, 2013. C.L. volunteered for the Navy in April 1944 during WW II. He served on the USS Butternut , a net tender that opened steel nets for ships that came in and out of harbor in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. After WW II, he transferred to the US Army where he served until 1952 at various army bases in Germany, Canada and the United States. He retired from Philip Morris, Inc. as a machinist. "Dad and mom worked hard to give us the things we had. They showed us what love, hard work and determination could accomplish if you had the desire. He and mom brought us up in church and taught us discipline and respect." He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Steve Sexton and Rev. Rick Adams. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military rites by the Cabarrus Veterans Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Whitley's. At other times, the family will be at a son's home, Ronnie Adcock, 220 Fry St., China Grove, NC. He is survived by five sons, Ronnie (Toni) Adcock of China Grove, Rodger (Jan) Adcock of China Grove, Glenn (Phyllis) Adcock of Rockwell, David (Penny) Adcock of Kannapolis and Curtis (Sherry) Adcock of Kannapolis, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
