Obituary: Mr. C.J. (Bunny) Moss, age 92, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at his home after a period of declining health. He was born on December 11, 1922 in Cabarrus County, NC. He was the son of the late Jesse Lee Moss and Ida Fortner Moss. Bunny was a 1940 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. Bunny was owner & operator of C.J. Moss Real Estate in Kannapolis, NC for over sixty years. He was an active member of First Assembly, Concord, NC where he served on the steering committee of the church for twenty-five years, ushered and helped oversee the construction of the Living Center at the church. In earlier years, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he was also active as head usher, helped each year on the annual barbeque, was a member of the W.J. Bullock Sunday school class, and served on various other phases of church activities. He is also remembered for bringing the "Freddy Gage Ministry" to Kannapolis in earlier times. His other volunteer activities included memberships in the North Kannapolis Lions Club and the Kannapolis Businessmen's Club. Bunny was also proud of his affiliation with the Gideons International Chapter. At one time, he was on the board of the local Salvation Army. He was also one of the charter members of the former Kannapolis Golf Course in Kannapolis. Many in the area might remember him especially as being "Santa Clause" in the Kannapolis Christmas parade for many years. He and his wife, Montine "Teenie", also established a "Jail Ministry" where they would give fruit baskets and bibles to the prisoners. His wife fondly recalls his lifetime love of writing poetry. He wrote love poems during his courtship to Teenie and continued after marriage. His genres varied from life lessons to faith. For their 50th wedding anniversary, he composed a special love poem about their life together. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Terry Moss; a brother, Harold Moss; and a sister, Hazel Bogan. The funeral service will be held at 5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at First Assembly Worship Center Concord, NC officiated by Pastor Tom Whidden. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the church prior to the service. The family will be at their respective residences the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of over sixty-eight years, Montine "Teenie" Moss; his children, Cheryl (Randy) Hollifield and Marla (Frankie) Alley, both of Kannapolis, NC; seven grandchildren, Kelley Moss, Melanie Moss Campbell, Tyler Hollifield Myers, Derek Alley, Garrett Hollifield, Jordan Alley Zavala, and Mallory Hollifield Kanos; four great-grandchildren, Keagan Campbell, Madalynn Campbell, Harlan Moss, and Ryker Myers; one step-great grandchild, Christian Campbell; sisters, Ann (Gene) Holbrooks and Kay Robinette, both of Kannapolis, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service for family and friends will be Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis with military honors.
