Caldwell Baxter Gardner

Obituary: Caldwell Baxter "C.B." Gardner, 97, passed away Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 at his home. Born December 13, 1919 in Chesterfield County, SC, he was a son of the late Robert Fulton and Maude Esther Warner Gardner. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife, Lois Hayer Gardner, brothers Harry and Charlie Gardner, a sister Ruth Hartman and son-in-law Jimmy Sides. Mr. Gardner had earlier worked as an iron worker, then 20 years for Cannon Mills. He later retired after 25 years with American Schlafhorst. C.B. had attended Kannapolis Church of God and enjoyed farming, his tractor, cows and cutting firewood. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Loving family members include his daughters Terri Sides and Susan Ketner (Danny); sister Mattie Baucom; brother Robert Gardner; his grandchildren Blake Ketner, Rebecca Ketner and Robin Hilton; great-grandchildren Alan Michael Hilton and Kameron Blair Hilton, and extended family. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 17th from 1:30-3:00 pm at Whitley Funeral Home Annex Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm, conducted by Dr. Greg Sloop and Rev. Barbara Watkins. Mr. Gardner will be laid to rest with his wife at Carolina Memorial Park.
