Obituary: Calvin Henry Rodgers, 84, of Kannapolis passed quietly at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, Nov. 3 at Bethpage Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ellen Campbell-Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends on Friday from 1:30 to 3:45 PM at the church in the fellowship hall. Calvin was born June 25, 1933 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Walter Calvin Rodgers and Ethel Canup Rodgers Ballard. He was a life-long area resident and graduated from Winecoff HS in 1952 and was an active long time member and elder of Bethpage Presbyterian Church. Calvin was a hardworking man. He worked with telecommunications at Cannon Mill. He ran his own grading and hauling business. He coached football at the YMCA and umpired baseball and refereed football games for the county leagues and high schools. Calvin enjoyed working on his heavy equipment, moving dirt. He was an avid outdoors man, loving hunting and fishing and working in his garden. Calvin was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his brother, Harold "Lawson" Rodgers and sisters; Marie Scarborough, Lucille Moss and Doris Purser. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sara Winecoff Rodgers of the home, 2 sons Dale Alan Rodgers of Kannapolis, Darrell Rodgers (Vickie) of Rockwell and his daughter, Sandra Cox (Rob) of Kannapolis; 5 grandchildren, Todd, Brandi, Daniel, Andrew and Madison and 1 great-grandchild, Madelyn and his sister; Catherine Wentz as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
