Obituary: Carl Hendren, 85, of Kannapolis passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born February 16, 1929 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late James Clyde Hendren and Edith May Bost Hendren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell Compton Hendren, a son, Steve Nantz, daughter, Jody Lambert, a brother, J.C. Hendren and a sister, Merle Hendren Honeycutt. Carl was retired from the US Army where he served in the Korean War and was a member of the Army National Guard 196th Calvary Squadron. He then worked for Mineral Research and Development Corp. for 22 years as a Plant Supervisor where he retired in 1989. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 9, 2015 at Carolina Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Darrell Worley. Military rites will be by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home. He is survived by a son, Tim Hendren (Lisa) of China Grove, daughters, Amy Moon (Greg) of Kannapolis and Cindy Shinn (William) of Mooresville, brother, Ralph Guy Hendren of Kannapolis, 13 grandchildren, Michael Nantz, Stephanie Davis, Teresa Bradford, Stephen Shinn, Jamie Shinn, Noah Moon, Hannah Moon, Adrian Hendren, Andrew Hendren, Ashley Hendren Buell, Alyssa Hendren, Ariel Hendren and Aubrey Hendren, 17 great grandchildren and his closest friend, James "Jim" Baker of Kannapolis.
