Obituary: Carl Henry Brown, age 84, of China Grove died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the NC State Veteran's Home in Salisbury after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis with Rev. Jarrod Lanning officiating. Burial will follow at St. Luke's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mt. Ulla. Military Burial Rites will be conducted by the Rowan Co. Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church prior to the funeral Carl was born April 26, 1925 in Rowan Co. NC, the son of the late Myron Day Brown and Carrie Smith Brown. He was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Carl graduated from Landis HS in 1942. He served in the US Army during WWII in the 30th Infantry Div. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a Heavy Machine Gunner. He slept in frozen foxholes for 6 weeks in the Ardennes. Carl was captured in 1944 and remained a POW until the end of the war. He graduated from Catawba College in 1949, with a degree in Chemistry. Carl was a farmer all his life raising cattle and growing grain. He is survived by his brother, Samuel Brown of Kannapolis and his sister, Monica Patterson of Sanford, NC and also 4 nephews, 1 niece and 2 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew.
