Carl Steve Johnson

Obituary: Mr. Carl Steve Johnson, 100 years of age, of China Grove, NC passed away June 11, 2017. Mr. Johnson was born May 4, 1917 in Inman, Wise County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Horace S. Johnson and Effie Falin Johnson. Although he was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC, he attended Memorial United Methodist Church for several years with his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel Sorah Johnson. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Those left to cherish his memory are his son Douglas Johnson and wife Susie, of China Grove, NC, grandson Ronald Johnson of Kannapolis, NC, great-grand daughter Caroline Johnson of Raleigh, NC, and great grandson Jacob Johnson of Kannapolis, NC He is also survived by his niece Karen Johnson Bolick of Denver, NC, nephew Bill Poole and wife Agnes of Clemmons, NC, nephew Bob Poole of Arizona as well as numerous family members in the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Idaho. Carl was a hard worker and a man of many talents. He worked for approximately thirty-five years at Cannon Mills and late in life went to work for Celanese until he retired. His strength, loving spirit and sense of humor were an inspiration to all who knew him. The service for Mr. Johnson will take place Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Whitley's Funeral Home. The family will receive from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm before the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
