Obituary: Carl Wiley Brown formerly of 1002 Debbie Street Kannapolis and Horizon Bay Assisted Living went peacefully to meet his Lord on Saturday, November 21, 2009. He had been in declining health for 3 years. A worship service in celebration of his life will be held Monday at 12:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 101 North Main Street, Kannapolis. The family will receive at 10:30 in the church fellowship hall. The service of entombment will be at 9:30 on Monday, November 23 at the Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 601 Mt. Olivet Road, Kannapolis, NC, 28083. Mr. Brown was born in Ashe County on October 11, 1910 to the late James and Alyfair Brown. He worked in his early years in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in the building of the K-29 uranium separating facility which covered 44 acres and was at that time the largest building in the world under one roof. He later formed Kannapolis Construction Co., Inc. and spent most of his life in the building of churches and homes in the Piedmont of North Carolina. His philosophy of "doing it right the first time" gained him much respect from his clients and his willingness to work to please them resulted in lifelong friendships. He was a Christian and faithfully gave witness to his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Kannapolis where he served as a deacon and in Sunday School and outreach organizations. He was a master carpenter and built many beautiful pieces of furniture and decorative objects. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Grace Stuart Brown. Surviving are a son, Dallas J. Brown and wife Jackie of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Carol Brown Cone and husband, Bill of Concord; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Beth) Brown Conner of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Beverly Brown McCoy and husband, Tim of Macon, GA, Jenny Cone Carroll and husband, Douglas of Concord, NC, Brian C. Cone and wife, Lorie of Concord, NC; and great-grandchildren Christopher Clark Conner, Cameron James Conner, Kendall Graham Conner, Meredith Anne McCoy, Molly Elizabeth McCoy, Meredith Grace Cone and Joshua Owen Cone. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main St., Kannapolis, NC 28081. or the charity of one's choice.
