Carol Hammett Cline, beloved wife, mother and Mamaw, drew her last breath on April 19, 2021 at the age of 74.
Carol was born in Kannapolis on August 5, 1946 to the late Pearl and Carl Hammett. Carol graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1964, going on to continue her education at Kings Business College. She went on to work as an administrative assistant at Rohm and Haas followed by a position at Wells Fargo.
Carol was married 55 years to her best friend, Guy Cline. The couple met and were married within a few months. The love that Guy and Carol shared was evident. No matter what the day brought, they never went to bed without saying “I love you.”
The couple had two boys together, Jamey and Jody. Always the devoted mother, Carol never missed her sons’ games. She never stopped taking care of her boys, always making sure to let them know when she was making their favorite meal so they could stop in and eat. Jody and Jamey remained devoted to their mother until the very end.
“Mamaw” never missed a birthday or special event. When her grandson Josh started playing baseball, she delighted in keeping score at every single game. She never showed up to Christmas lunch without fresh coconut cake. Photos of her grandkids line the wall of her home at every age and stage.
Over the years Carol traveled whenever she could, however she could. Whether by boat, car, or plane, she was always up for an adventure. She played in a bowling league, skated, line-danced, cross stitched, and crocheted. She spent time with family and friends. Carol grabbed ahold of life and didn’t let it go until the end.
When she wasn’t on an adventure, she could be found swinging on her screened in porch with a book in her hand, her newest adopted cat prancing around the yard, and Guy sitting close by.
Carol will be remembered as a sassy, tenacious, proud, smart, and loving woman. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Kannapolis.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include her brother Tommy Hammett (Bobby); her sons Jamey Cline (Michelle) and Jody Cline (Kristin); her grandchildren, Megan Gabbert (Kenneth), Josh Cline, Lauren Cline, Matthew Cline, Camryn Umberger, and Reagan Umberger; and her great grandson Ezra.
Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 20, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastors Craig Allen and Ken Martin. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
The family asks that memorials be made to the American Lung Association, 4006 Oleander Dr, Wilmington, NC 28403.
