Carol Anne Makachinas

Carol Anne Makachinas, 80, of Concord, passed away, Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Atrium Health Cabarrus aka NE Medical Center.

She was born October 22, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Russell Dickinson Jr. and Helen Videl Miller Dickinson.

Carol was a nurse for most of her life, including a hospital OR trauma nurse and continued later working for Medical Modalities as their RN. Learning quickly in life how bad things can get she always had a way to see the positive in any situation. Beyond work she continued to always want to help people and mend situations. She even progressed to being the family nurse in always having a good solution to anyone getting hurt.

As a child her father introduced to her 2 main traits that flourished into the rest of her life, music and cars. He was always eager to share with her what he was doing next whether it was a brake job or adjusting a carburetor. This attention to cars brought her to driving street rally events and always having many 5 speed manual vehicles. Her latest car that she adored was her 04 Anniversary Mustang GT convertible that she always loved to drive with the top down. As her father was in a band and playing guitar for years she was quickly touched by music and learned how to read music. Carol used this inspiration to start playing piano and singing. From the early years she progressed from singing in the shower to being apart of Duke Chapel Choir in Durham, NC, Cabarrus Women’s Chorale (CWC), and the Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church Choir just to name a few.

Other hobbies she enjoyed were cooking as she was always eager to try new recipes, camping, fishing and anything that she could enjoy freshness of being outdoors. She also loved to travel and visit new places, having the highest priority to just grab a book and chill.

Carol was a member of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church. Always touched by grace she managed to keep close to her savior. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and had strong family roots.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Thaddeus “Thad” Thomas Makachinas February 23, 2023.

Those left to cherish her memory; her Shih Tzu dog Nitro, her son/daughter in law Eric and Sun Makachinas of Kannapolis, three grandchildren; Josie, Calvin, and Luna Makachinas, brothers/sisters; Carol and Howard Dickinson, Jean and John Clair, 3 nephews, Scott, Bryan, Keith, 3 nieces, Kristina, Andrea, Sarah.
