Obituary: Carolyn Cook Brafford, 82, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019, following her courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. A native of Concord, Carolyn graduated from Winecoff High School where she participated in the Beta Club and the Letter Girls. She enjoyed camping at the beach with her family, and had traveled to all 50 states. A teacher's aide at Winecoff Elementary for 20 years, Carolyn was passionate in her love for teaching. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, where she belonged to K. Lee Scott Sharing Group and Clarence Horton's Sunday School Class #7. Carolyn loved seashells, butterflies, hummingbirds, and rainbows. Her greatest love was her family. Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Winecoff Cook, and her infant son, Phil Brafford. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald Brafford; her children, Donna Wilson and Michael Brafford; her beloved grandchildren, Kristen Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Lydia Brafford, and Haley Brafford; her brother, A. Wayne Cook; her nieces, Cathy Cook and Kim Cook; her nephew, Keith Cook; and sisters-in-law, Linda Furr, Gail Harrington, and Phyllis Morrow. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 2, 9:00-10:15 a.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Her memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Whitley's Funeral Home's Chapel, with the Reverend Dr. Cathy Cook officiating. A private burial will be held at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC, 28081, or to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mount Olivet Road, Concord, NC, 28025.
