Carolyn Bennett Davis

Obituary: Carolyn Bennett Davis, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for two years. She was born on January 18, 1938, in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late James R. and Helen L. Bennett. Carolyn was a 1956 graduate of Odell High School. She had a twin sister, Marilyn, and they were known as the Bennett twins. They were very active in sports, where Carolyn developed her love for all sports. You could often catch Carolyn watching football and basketball as she was very knowledgeable and an avid fan of both. Carolyn married the love of her life, Gary Jackson Davis, on November 11, 1956. They shared almost 50 years together before he proceeded her in death on September 6, 2006. They lived in China Grove. Carolyn worked at China Grove Cotton Mill as a Laboratory Technician for many years prior to her career at Terry Products in Kannapolis. She often talked about both of her careers and how she loved the people and the work as she was a dedicated employee with a great work ethic. She was a woman of great faith and a dedicated member of Genesis Baptist Church. Her church family was very important to her. She was very active in her Sunday School class and attended regularly. Carolyn was very active as she loved to shop and dine out with friends until declining health in 2015 left her in the hands of caregivers, and later, she resided with her daughter. She was blessed to have great care and the support of her family and friends while still continuing her faith and attending church when she could. She loved her caregivers as well as spending time with her family. Her greatest enjoyment was her four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. She will be missed by everyone who came to know her and especially by her family; daughters, Suzi Davis Wolford (Shane) of Faith and Gina Davis Miller (Michael) of China Grove; sister, Marilyn Bennett Reeves (Ken) of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Jennifer Blackwelder Rollins (Jamie) of China Grove, Jeremy Michael Blackwelder (Becca) of Fort Mill, SC, Ashlyn McKenzie Miller (Chris Adams) of Bolivia, Lauren Katlyn Miller of China Grove; step-grandchildren, David Shane Wolford(Chelsey) of Locust, McKenzie Rene Wolford of Salisbury; great-grandchildren, Jalee Elizabeth, Jessalyn Grace and Jamilyn Elise Rollins; Delaney Rae and Jackson Davis Blackwelder and Adley Rae Adams. Funeral services will be held at Genesis Baptist Church, 9710 Old Concord Road, China Grove, NC 28023, conducted by the Reverend Gene Edwards. Visitation will be Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 11 am to 1 pm, service at 1 pm. There will be a graveside service at West Lawn Memorial Park, 1350 South Main Street, China Grove, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials and gifts be sent in memory of Carolyn Davis to Genesis Baptist Church. Whitley Funeral Home of Kannapolis is serving the Davis family.
