Carolyn Hoffner

Obituary: Carolyn Ramona West Hoffner, 79, of China Grove passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the Tucker Hospice House of Kannapolis, surrounded by her family after a period of declining health. Carolyn was born September 6, 1939 in Kershaw County, SC. She was the late daughter of Dalton T. West and Mary Dorothy West. Carolyn graduated from Spencer High School and Salisbury Business College. She was a member of First Baptist Church in China Grove. Carolyn loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which were her pride and joy. She also, worked at South Rowan Academy for a number of years where she loved working with children. Carolyn's husband of 57 years, Edward Eugene (Gene) Hoffner, passed away four days after her death. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gary West and a sister, Sara West; also, a great-grand daughter, Kinsley Cook. The family extends a special thank you to Carolyn's caregivers Karen Ritchie, Ryan O'Neil and Christeena Jackson-Nolin for all their love and wonderful special care. Those left to cherish their memory are their children Genia Goldston (Mark), Tina Hunter (Dale), and Keith Hoffner (Amy); and his beloved six grandchildren, Jessica Cook (Braden), Ashley Elkins (Kevin), Jarod and Jacob Raper, Eric Goldston and Sophie Hoffner and two great-grandchildren, Macy and Marlee Cook. The family would also like to thank the caring staff at Tucker Hospice House for all their compassion and care and also the staff and nurses from Hospice of Cabarrus County. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family will receive friends Monday, September 24th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Carolyn Hoffner will begin at 4:00 pm Monday in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor David Franks.
