Catherine Nixon Fox

Obituary: Catherine Nixon Fox, 74, passed away at her home on Friday, July 15, 2016. She was born on January 6, 1942, in Lenoir, NC. She was the daughter of the late James and Mabel Nixon and grew up in Lincoln County, NC. She spent her life caring for her family and helping her husband at Fox's General Store. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in China Grove where she was a devoted member of the women's circle, sang in the choir, previously worked as a youth music teacher and helped with VBS. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 10 years, enjoyed working outside in the garden and gardening, loved going to water aerobics at the YMCA and served many years as a precinct election official. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, John Michael "Mick" Fox. Her two daughters; Candice Safrit and husband Jeff of China Grove and Shannon Cheeseman and husband Chad of Rockwell. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Sarah Safrit, Jacob and Logan Cheeseman, one sister, Frances Sigmon and husband Danny of Denver, NC., brother, Jim Nixon and wife Linda of Denver, NC., sisters-in-Law, Janice Wilkinson and husband Lester of Mooresville and Joy Absher and husband Rev. Herman of Rockwell. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in China Grove, officiated by Pastor Bob Young. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Whitey's Funeral Home on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 4914 Old Beatty Ford Rd., China Grove, NC 28023.
