Catherine Slaughter

Obituary: Catherine McInnis Slaughter, 89 of Kannapolis passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Caremoor Retirement Center where she has been a resident since 2003. Mrs. Slaughter was born in Cabarrus County on April 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Burton Lee McInnis, Sr. and Margaret Rebecca Jones McInnis. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Alton L. Slaughter who passed away in 1978, a brother; Burton Lee McInnis Jr., and a sister; Betty Hager. Catherine was employed at Cannon Mills Plant #1 for 35 years, until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis and was active in the Margaret Goodman Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the VFW Kannapolis Post. One of her favorite pass times was working crossword puzzles. A service to celebrate Catherine's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Carolina Memorial Park in the chapel mausoleum with Rev. Bill Jolley officiating. Entombment will follow the services in the mausoleum. Catherine is survived by 2 nieces; Pam Watford of Kannapolis and Cathy McInnis of Virginia Beach, VA, 2 nephews; Rick Hager of Kannapolis and Larry McInnis of Virginia Beach, VA, several great nieces and nephews and cousins. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Caremoor Retirement Center and Hospice of Cabarrus County for their care and compassion extended to Mrs. Slaughter and her family.
