Obituary: Mr. Cecil Charlie Hughes, 81, of Kannapolis died at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis on October 20, 2012. Mr. Hughes was born on November 20, 1930 in Fannin Co., GA, the son of the late June Hughes and the late Lou Fox Hughes. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Sexton Hughes who died on December 3, 2001, a son, Jeffrey Hughes, 2 brothers; John Hughes and Junie Hughes; 2 sisters, Viola Shell and Jessie Abercrombie. Mr. Hughes was a resident of this area since 1938 being employed with Linn-Corrhier Mills., Inc. for 45 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Peace Freewill Baptist Church in Kannapolis. He is survived by 2 daughters; Deborah Hale (Barry) and Cynthia Sloop (Rick) all of Kannapolis and 2 sons; Dennis Hughes and Eric Hughes (Jennifer) all of Kannapolis. Also, by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Hughes is also survived by a brother, Jack Hughes of Blue Ridge, GA. The funeral for Mr. Hughes will take place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2012, graveside services at Carolina Mem. Park conducted by Rev. Randall Ritchie.
