Obituary: Early in the morning of January 11, 2018, Cecil Medlin, 89, entered the Church Triumphant of his Lord and Savior with his family surrounding him. The family will be honoring his life with services at Whitley's Funeral Home with the receiving friends and family on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM . The memorial jubilee service to observe and celebrate his life will be in the Whitley's Chapel on Saturday January 13th at 1:00 PM and officiated by his pastor, the Reverend Steve Leigh of Lakewood Baptist Church and Rev. Roger Lee. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. On Sept. 8, 1928, he was born to the late Roy and Ollie Medlin of Cabarrus County. Mr. Medlin served in the United States Navy as a medic and was awarded the Victory WW II Medal. He worked in multiple venues in business management throughout his career. Upon retirement, he began his most rewarding career by driving the bus for the Kannapolis City School system's exceptional children's program. Surviving Cecil is his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Peggy Austeen Fite Medlin as well as his daughters, Cathy (William) Lang of Granger, Indiana, Kim (Roger) Lee of Vale, NC, Kelli (Gregg) Powell of Kannapolis and Becky (James) Clark also of Kannapolis. Grandchildren include Casey Rickard, Christy Foster, Megan Stanly, Madison Powell, Jonathan Clark, Aaron Clark, Keith Clark and Zachary Clark. Nine great grandchildren are among the family members. Also surviving are two brothers, Gerald "Jerry" Medlin and Gene Whitley and numerous nieces and nephews. There are numerous exceptional children in the school system he considered unofficially a part of his extended family. Mr. Medlin is also survived by his special dog and friend who brought him much happiness, Jake. Preceding him in death were his siblings Clarence Whitley, Blanche Safrit, Dorothy Phillips, Rev. Hardy Medlin, Marvin Medlin, J. D. Whitley and Ira "Eddie" Whitley. The family would like to thank the Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care for the excellent and compassionate care provided to Cecil and his entire family.
