Obituary: Charles Ray "Cowboy" Bennett, 57, departed this life Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at CMC-Northeast Medical Center, Concord. Death was unexpected. Charles was born January 16, 1954 in Cabarrus County, NC son of the late John and Bessie Lee Bennett. He was a 1971 graduate of A.L. Brown High School. He served two years with the US Army during the Vietnam era. Prior to his retirement due to disability he had worked at Brian Center, Charlotte for 10 years as a dietician and later at Five Oaks Nursing Center. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Graveside Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 13, 2011 at the National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC., conducted by Rev. Donald E. Anthony. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Army National Guard and the Rowan County Veteran's Council. He is survived by his wife: Candice Marie Smith , five sons, Charles Sherrill of Charlotte, Aaron Smith, Calab, Elijah, and Issac Bennett of Kannapolis. Three daughters, Cosheia Scott and husband William , Charlene Bennett and Anlinda Bennett all of Concord. Ten Grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by seven sisters, Hattie Mae Farrington and husband James, Christina B. Rorie and husband Joe, Deborah Kay Bennett, Evelina Bennett, Janice L. Massey and husband Adam, Grace E. Lowery and husband Allan, and Antionette D. Bennett. Also survived by seven brothers, Johnny Bennett and wife Betty Jean, Tommy Bennett, Osborne Bennett, Marvin Bennett, Richard Bennett and wife Bridgette, Randolph Bennett, Bradford Bennett and wife Melissa. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Wiley Bennett. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Bennett.
