Charles "Chuck" Franklin Burgess

Obituary: Charles Franklin (Chuck) Burgess, age 57, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System - NorthEast, Concord, NC. He was born October 17, 1958 in Ashe County, NC, the son of the late Charles Ralph Burgess and Mary Sue Bare Burgess Baker. He moved to the Salisbury area in 1978. Chuck was employed as a builder/contractor with his brother in Burgess Metal Builders and other builders throughout the years. He was a active member of New Testament Independent Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC as an usher and loved his church dearly. His family remembers his love for hunting and fishing. He loved the children at his church and was referred to as a "Gentle Giant." He was also thought of as a "genuine" person who was the same everywhere he went and never meeting a stranger. He had an "undying love" for his wife and children. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Burgess. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at New Testament Independent Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Pastor Bobby Utley. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include his wife of thirty-six years, Hazel Barker Burgess; his son, Travis Burgess (Holly) of Salisbury, NC ; his daughter, Memory Burgess (Billy) of Salisbury, NC; honorary children, Tim Eudy, Becky Whitley, and Phillip Starnes; three brothers, Roy Burgess, Kevin Burgess, and Rex Burgess; and two sisters, Alena Felts and Polly Eastridge. Memorials may be made to New Testament Independent Baptist Church, 5100 Irish Potato Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
