Obituary: Charles Eugene "Gene" Funderburk, 80, of 6000 Irish Potato Rd. Kannapolis, NC died Friday August 14, 2009 at CMC NorthEast. He was born February 5, 1929 in Rowan County, the son of the late Raymond and Daisy Troutman Funderburk. He retired from Cannon Mills where he had been a foreman in the weave room and card room. He was a veteran of the US Army 82nd Airborne Div. during the Korean War. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member of the Golden Nuggets Sunday school class and a Sunday school teacher. He loved reading, farming, and listening to the Bible Broadcasting Network(BBN). Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Memorial Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Tim McQueen and Rev. Phil Fischbach. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home. His body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. He is survived by his wife Helen Verlene Funderburk, his son Keith Funderburk of Kannapolis, his 3 daughters: Levonda Morgan and husband James of Salisbury, Denita Bresett and husband Ron of Kannapolis, and Donna Fischbach and husband Phil of Nichols, SC., 11 grandchildren, 1 greatgrandchild, his sister Sadie Wagner of Kannapolis and his brother Bill Funderburk of Rockwell. The family would like to express their appreciation for the love and care to the nurses of Hospice of Cabarrus County. Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00pm, Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Whitley's Funeral Home

Service: 3:00pm Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Memorial Baptist Church. Lie in state 30 minutes prior to service

Interment: West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC
