Charles Boyce Godfrey

Obituary: Concord, NC - Charles "Boyce" Godfrey, age 76, of 3150 Zion Church Rd. went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 31 from CMC-NorthEast. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, April 4 at Memorial Baptist Church in Kannapolis, with Rev. Tim McQueen and Dr. Jim Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 -3:00 PM on Saturday at the Church Fellowship Hall, at other times the family will be at the residence. Boyce was born September 12, 1932 in Mecklenburg Co., the son of the late Claude Lewis Godfrey and the late Nettie McManus Godfrey. He was a life long area resident, graduating from Cannon H. S. and then Gaston Technical College. Boyce was a veteran of the US Army. He was employed with West Electric which later became AT&T as an electronics repairman until he retired in 1987. He was a long time member of Memorial Baptist Church and a charter sunday school member. He was very active in the church, having served as a Deacon, sunday school teacher and R.A. leader/director. Boyce was a member of the Choir for 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Sossaman Godfrey of the family home, and 2 sons, Michael C. Godfrey and wife, Marcie of Kannapolis and Allen R. Godfrey and wife, Angie of Kannapolis. Boyce is also survived by 3 grandchildren, David, Amanda and Payton Godfrey as well as his sister, Josie Pope of Kannapolis, and his brother, Howard Godfrey of GA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 7 other brothers and sisters.
