Obituary: Charles David Kerley, 57, of Kannapolis passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at his home. He was born on July 3, 1957 in Rowan County. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.R. Kerley and Edna Bentley Kerley who were from the Taylorsville community and his sister Carolyn Gilreath of Raleigh. He is survived by his wife, Susan Sloop Kerley, daughter, Jennifer Kerley , his son, David Kerley all of Kannapolis, sisters, Sarah Yarborough of Welcome, Pat Henley of Willow Springs, Sharon Fisher of Kannapolis, and all of his friends from work, church, scouts and life. Charles was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a resident of Kannapolis and attended A.L. Brown High School. Charles was in scouting for over 30 years as a life scouter, a leader and as an advisor for the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow. He worked for the N.C. Dept. of Transportation for over 25 years. He had a young boys dream job of driving Tonka Trucks for a living and made many friendships along the way. Charles was a friend to many people, his passion was scouting and his joy was teaching others how to love and survive the outdoors. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kannapolis. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
