Obituary: Salisbury, NC Charles A. "Chuck" Leslie, 91, of Salisbury, formerly of Kannapolis died January 2, 2019 at Trinity Oaks Retirement Center after a brief period of declining health. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 5th at Trinity Oaks, in the Chapel with Chaplain, Rev. Brenda Bynum officiating. Chuck's family will receive friends after the service. Chuck was born April 16, 1927 in Iredell Co., the son of the late S. A. and Lilly Waye Baker Leslie. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Hicks Leslie, who passed in April 2018. He grew up in Charlotte, NC. Upon graduating from the Darlington School in Rome GA, Chuck join the U. S. Navy at the age of 17, serving during WWII. After the war, Chuck attended Furman University on the GI Bill, graduating with a BS in Mathematics. During his time at Furman he played on the varsity tennis team, was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and was featured in "Who's Who of U.S. Colleges and Universities" in 1950. He worked for Cannon Mills for 36 years and was past Commander of American Legion Post 115. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons; Charles A. Leslie, Jr. (Dee) of Raleigh, Robert W. Leslie (Gina) of Concord; his grandchildren include Caroline, Kathryn and Chase Leslie, all of Raleigh and Andrew Leslie of Charlotte and Nathan Leslie of Dallas, TX He is also survived by his sister, Mary Baker MacDonald of Tucson, AZ and his nieces; Cathy Sheely and Ellen Williams. Chuck's family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff of Trinity Oaks for their tremendous support given to their parents during their time at Trinity Oaks.
