Charles James Misenheimer

November 20, 1925 — October 5, 2022

Charles James Misenheimer passed away peacefully with his children by his side on October 5, 2022 at the age of 96 in Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. He was born in Kannapolis, NC on November 20th, 1925 to George Monroe and Rita Barger Misenheimer.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife Hilda Maulden Misenheimer, whom he married in 1949, and by his infant son Donald James. Charles is survived by son Chuck Misenheimer (Daphne) and their three children – Rick (Vanessa), Lindsay Johnson (Stephen) and Jamie Sweatman; daughter Lane Chisholm (Brian) and their three children – Matthew (Heather), Emily Chimeno (Levi), and Isabelle Turner (Daniel).  He also had 12 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Charles enlisted in the Navy in 1943 where he was assigned as a gunner to the USS Midway.  Upon the end of his service with the Navy he attended Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Dayton, VA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree.  He was a band and orchestra director in Winecoff county, VA and sang in the Midway Methodist church choir.  He left teaching to enter the insurance business and worked for Travelers Insurance for 20 years then left and became VP of Harlan Insurance Agency.  After that he became co-owner of GBS Insurance agency from where he retired.

Charles and family lived in several places before finally settling in Houston, TX in 1966.  Charles and Hilda joined St. Luke’s United Methodist church in 1966 where they served as members of the Chancel Choir for 49 years.  He was also a member of the Quester’s class, Chamber Singers and Mainstreamers.

Charles was a devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law and Granddaddy.  He loved to play golf, fish and spend time with his family.  He was notorious singing out loud wherever he went and he was the undisputed checkers champion of his family much to the chagrin of his kids.  He served God and his family his whole life and he will be tremendously missed by those left behind.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-2:00 Friday, October 21 at Whitley’s Funeral Home and a graveside service will be at 2:00 Friday October 21 at Carolina Memorial Park.
