Charles Nolan Payne

Charles Nolan Payne, 90, of Kannapolis passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was born in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Bynum O. and Maudelee Cloninger Payne. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ray and Glenn Payne.

Charles was an Eagle Scout and former scout master of Troop #33. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He served as treasurer to the J.L. Smith Sunday school class and past treasurer of the church. He was a US Navy veteran.

Charles was past director of Mortgage Bankers Association of America and retired as Vice-President of South Trust Bank (now Wells Fargo).

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gail Phillips Payne, his sons, Philip Payne (Janice) of Newark, Del., Mark Payne (Sharon) of Greenville, SC, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
