Charles Swanner

Obituary: Charles Elwood Swanner, 90, of China Grove passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Tucker Hospice House. He was born November 25, 1928, in Rowan County, son of the late Jim and Eva Atkinson Swanner. Charles retired from China Grove Cotton Mills after many years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. Charles was an avid golfer. A celebration of Charles's life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 27, 2019, at New Hope Lutheran Church. His family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 PM prior in the church fellowship hall. Charles is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Joyce Swanner, son, Terry Swanner (Shirley), grandchildren, Jacquelyn Swanner Knudson (Nicholas), Jessica Swanner, and Andrew Swanner, brother, James Swanner, and sisters, Margaret Linker, Ruth Adams, and Shirley Ann Bell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church, 1615 Brantley Rd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
