Obituary: Charles Crawford Upright, Jr. , known to friends and family as "Jr.", died Friday May 3, 2019 , while at Big Elm Nursing and Rehab., after a period of declining health. He was 83 years old. Jr.'s funeral service will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel at 2:00 PM Monday, May 6. His burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. His family will receive friends on Monday, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Whitley's Annex Chapel. Jr. was born May 14, 1935 in Rowan Co. a son of the late Charles C. Upright, Sr. and Fannie Overcash Upright. In addition to his parents, Jr. was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Georgia Upright Seaford and Elsie Upright Whitman. He was a lifelong area resident. Jr. was a talented multi- instrumental musician. He played with Charlie Monroe's Country and Bluegrass Band at several venues' in the south and on the east coast. When he wasn't playing his fiddle he was working at Cannon Mills or as a Carpenter, but he loved playing music most of all. He is survived by 4 sisters; Margie U. Plyler Church of Concord, Connie U. Burris of Mt. Pleasant, Rosa Upright and Doris U. Hodge, both of Kannapolis and his brother, Robert "Rube" Upright, also of Kannapolis, as well as many nieces and nephews.
