Charles Frederick Wagner

Obituary: Charles Frederick Wagner, 87, of Kannapolis went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, May 6, 2019, at his residence following a period of declining health. Charles was born February 7, 1932, in Logan County, Ohio, a son of the late Frederick and Anna Underwood Wagner. Charles was a graduate of Mount Victory High School where he was a member of the basketball team. He graduated from Carson-Newman College. Charles was a very active member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Chi-Rho Sunday School Class, served as a Sunday school teacher, a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees, a member and served on the Board of the United Methodist Men, named Lay Person of the Year twice, a youth counselor for over 12 years, a Stephen Ministry Minister, Preschool Board Member and loved singing in the choir. Charles was employed with Cannon Mills retiring as Manager of the Water Facilities. He was a member of Concord Jaycees, Stokes Lodge #32 AF&AM of Concord for over fifty years and the Robert DeBruce Council #4 and served as the DeMolay Advisor. He coached football, basketball and baseball at the Concord Boys Club and was named "Father of the Year" by the Boys Club. He served as the District Commissioner of Concord Boys Scouts, was active in the Y-Indian Guides with his son, and was a past president of the Northwest Cabarrus High School Boosters Club. Charles was active in the Carolinas Historic Aviation Commission in Charlotte where he won the "The Wilson Award" twice. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving with the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing stationed in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict and was later a member of the Tennessee Air National Guard. Survivors left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Betty Owen Wagner; son, Scott Charles Wagner and wife Ann Beh Wagner of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; one daughter, Connie Wagner Williams and husband Lee Allen Williams of Granite Falls, NC. He also leaves two beloved grandchildren, Owen Scott Williams and Carsen Lee Williams. A celebration of Charles' life will be 4:00 P.M. Friday, May 10, 2019, at Epworth United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Sonny Reavis. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
