Charles (Pete) Walker

July 13, 1929 — May 3, 2013

Obituary: Surrounded by his loved ones, Charles "Pete" Beauford Walker went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. He was born in Cabarrus County on July, 13, 1929 to Clarence "Pop" Walker and Rose Vannoy Walker. He graduated from Cannon High School and then completed Printing School in Nashville, Tennessee. He also received a certification in taxidermy from Montgomery County Community College. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in Germany in the 485th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was married to the love of his life, Marie Mullis, of Kannapolis, NC, for 60 years. After working as a printer for 16 years, he joined his wife in the operation of Peter Pan Day Care in Kannapolis. There he touched the lives of many children and was affectionately known as "Paw Paw Pete". Pete was an active member of Bethpage United Methodist Church in Kannapolis. He served as Scout Master, Youth Leader, Chairperson of the Building Committee, and also served on the Administrative Board, and Trustee Committee. He and Marie were instrumental in the organization of the Church Softball League and were lifetime members of the South Rowan Booster Club. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Marie, and his four children; Debbie Beaver (George), Rosie Snow (Marty), C.T. Walker (Norma) all of Salisbury, and Jon Walker (Leigh Anne) of Kannapolis. Pete will be remembered for his laughter and sense of humor by his 8 grandchildren: Elizabeth Beaver Gillis (Danny), Emily Beaver Yarbrough (Matt), Walker Snow, Weston Snow, Miranda Walker McGinnis (Matt), Seth Walker, Ashton Walker, and Dylan Walker. He loved the time he spent with his 6 great-grandchildren, Drue, Eric, Graham, Griffin, Gentry and Chase. Pete is also survived by one brother, Paul Walker of Charlotte and one sister, Shirley Watts of Traphill, NC. Of his many talents, Pete was a master carpenter. He also enjoyed making crafts, going to flea markets, auctions, hunting, singing, and especially spending time with friends and his family. Visitation will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC on Thursday, May, 2nd from 6pm - 9pm. A private burial will take place on Friday, with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 to be held at Bethpage United Methodist. Memorials may be sent to Bethpage United Methodist Church Building Fund, 106 Fellowship Avenue, Kannapolis, NC or Main Street Mission, 306 S. Main St., China Grove, NC. His family would like to express their gratitude to the Batte Cancer Center of Northeast Medical Center and to Hospice of Cabarrus County for the excellent care they provided.
