Charlie Hubert Gibson, 97, of Kannapolis died at home on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 after a period of declining health.
Family will receive friends at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in China Grove at 1028 Ed Weaver Rd. 28146 on Friday, September 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. He will lie in state at the church on Saturday, September 5 starting at 10:00 AM and his funeral will begin at 11:00 AM, with Rev. John Melton, Rev. Jay Gibson and Rev. Tommy Wensil officiating. Burial will follow the Saturday funeral at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
Charlie was born May 30, 1923 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Samuel T. and Mattie Cranfield Gibson. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Molly Humble Gibson, his son, Terry Gibson, his sisters, Geneva Hunter and Beulah Tanaka and his brother, Lewis Gibson. Charlie was a veteran of the US army during WWII. Charlie worked as a foreman at Cannon Mills, retiring in 1986 and he was an ordained minister, pastoring 4 churches in North and South Carolina and was currently a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in China Grove.
Charlie was survived by his daughter, Patsy Melton (John) of Salisbury, and his son, James Gibson (Jeannie) of Concord. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many other loved relatives.
