Obituary: Charlie "Leroy" London, age 91, of Kannapolis went home to be with his Lord with his family by his side Friday morning December 18, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center in Concord. His funeral will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Unity United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Settle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Monday 21, 2009 at other times they will be at the family residence. Leroy was born December 10, 1918 in Rowan Co. NC to the late Rufus and Bessie Williams London. He was a life long area resident educated in Rowan Co. Schools. Leroy had worked for Cannon Mills plant # 1, as a weaver in #1 weave room for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He was an active member of Unity United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men's Group for many years. He oversaw the church cemetery and managed the cemetery fund until he became ill. Leroy loved his family and was a passionate gardener and farmer. He enjoyed his Sunday afternoon baseball games. Leroy is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Travis London of the family home. He was also survived by his four children; Myra London Overcash and husband, Manuel of Kannapolis, Charles Ray London and wife Patricia A. Doran of Burlington Vermont, Nena L. Adams and husband, Paul of Kannapolis and Reid London and wife, Faye of Clemmons, NC. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a brother, Richard B. London of Glendale Springs. In addition to his parents Leroy was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tanya Jean London, brother, Lewis London, Sisters, Mary Wright, Estelle Campbell, Nadine Walter and Arlene Broadway.
